Most of the photographs of the ‘casuals’ in Liverpool were taken by a photogrpaher called Rob Bremmer. Bremner’s photographs document a pivitol time in Liverpool during the 1980s and early 90s. Taken during a time of economic strain, his work captures a city with a distinct, non-conformist identity. That spirit is difined by humour, style and a strong sense of community - all of which come through in his images.
Rather than portraying Liverpool as neglected and improverished during the Thatcher years, Bremner’s work reveals a city that held onto its style and identity. A city that, even in difficult times, refused to blend in.
